What You Need To Know About Rhinoplasty

You might need a rhinoplasty procedure for medical reasons, including if you:

• Need larger nostrils to breathe better
• Need correction to nasal structures, including a deviated septum
• Need to correct structural damage from a broken nose

You might want a rhinoplasty procedure for cosmetic reasons, including if you:

• Want to widen your nose because it is too narrow
• Want to reduce the size of your nose because it is too large
• Want to have a nose that is more proportional to your face
• Want narrower nostrils because your nostrils are too wide

When you have a rhinoplasty procedure, you will be sedated with general anesthesia or IV sedation. The plastic surgeon will reshape the cartilage and bone, or add cartilage and bone, depending on what is needed.

It's normal to experience swelling and bruising around your eyes and over your nose. Our plastic surgeon will manage any post-operative pain with pain medication for the first few days after your procedure.

As you heal, our plastic surgeon may recommend using a saline nasal spray to keep your nasal passages moist and help prevent irritation and inflammation. You may also need to wear an external or internal splint to support and cushion your nose while you heal.
