During the nine months of pregnancy and subsequent delivery, your body goes through a lot of changes to support the developing fetus. It's a wonderful time, but after giving birth you may find it difficult to get your body back to its pre-pregnancy state.
At PNW Plastic Surgery in Portland, Oregon, board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Leo Urbinelli and our staff understand the challenges you face in getting your pre-baby body back. That's why we offer the “mommy makeover,” a series of surgical procedures that can resolve all your problem areas, allowing you as a new mother to focus on your family, not on how uncomfortable your body makes you feel.
While you were pregnant, you ate for two, gaining enough weight to keep your baby healthy and safe. Your breasts swelled, the ligaments around your uterus stretched and became looser, you probably developed stretch marks everywhere from on your breasts to your stomach to your thighs, and your vaginal tissue became more lax to accommodate your emerging child.
In addition, more than 60% of pregnant women develop diastasis recti, a separation of their “six-pack” abdominal muscles.
Now it's time to shed the pounds and tone your body. However, despite watching what you eat and exercising regularly, you may find you now have wider hips, a flatter rear, a soft, saggy belly, and drooping breasts. And no amount of exercise can repair diastasis recti. So what can you do?
At PNW Plastic Surgery, our overall goal is to give you your pre-baby body back, but since every woman is different, each mommy makeover treatment is different, with specific procedures tailored to the individual’s needs.
And because the combination of procedures varies, there’s no hard-and-fast timeline for completing the restoration. We make every effort, though, to combine procedures, reducing your recovery time. After all, your time is better spent with your family than recuperating from surgery.
During your initial consultation for a mommy makeover, we review your health history and discuss the specific body parts you want to address. Then, we draw up a comprehensive treatment plan that includes the procedures best suited to your goals and the timeline for getting the work done.
At PNW Plastic Surgery, we provide a wide range of treatment options.
Dr. Urbinelli performs many types of breast surgery, including augmentation, lifting, and reshaping. While augmentation, which can be achieved either with implants or fat grafting, increases your breast size, it won’t do anything to help the droop. A breast lift, though, is ideal to shape and firm sagging breast tissue that comes from pregnancy and nursing. Another option is combining the procedures to enhance breast size while also eliminating any sagging.
Rapid weight gain during pregnancy enlarges your breasts and abdomen and stretches the skin on your arms and legs. Diet and exercise can address the additional weight, but you may find your skin loose, saggy, and riddled with stretch marks that accompany weight gain.
Dr. Urbinelli uses minimally invasive body contouring treatments to eliminate excess skin and fat and tighten your skin tissue. He can also reduce or remove stretch marks using nonsurgical cosmetic procedures.
Gaining the weight to support a healthy delivery was easy, but losing the weight once you’ve delivered is often not. Even the strictest diet and exercise regimen might not be enough to remove stubborn fat pockets. Liposuction vacuums up those pesky fat cells, removing them permanently and improving your contours in the process.
Many women find a robust-looking backside aesthetically pleasing, but pregnancy and childbirth can flatten your rump or cause it to droop. As part of your mommy makeover, Dr. Urbinelli can perform a Brazilian butt lift. He uses liposuction to take fat from a part of your body where you don’t want it, purifies the sample, and injects (grafts) it into your buttocks, boosting their size and curviness.
You spent nine months carrying a front-heavy load, which probably took a toll on your stomach and abdominal muscles and the tissues that surround them. A tummy tuck, also called abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and abdominal fat, repairs and tightens your abdominal muscles, and trims your midsection, restoring a toned and pleasing shape.
