How to Support Your Skin Through Another Summer

How to Support Your Skin Through Another Summer

Your skin is the largest organ in your body — and perhaps the most fragile. Exposure to the sun’s UV rays, the heat and the cold, and environmental toxins like cigarette smoke all conspire to do a number on it, leading to fine lines and wrinkles, deep creases, lax or sagging skin, and hollowed areas like the cheeks.

You need a strategy to get your skin through another summer in the sun and surf. PNW Plastic Surgery in Portland, Oregon has that strategy. Board-certified plastic surgeon and aesthetics specialist Dr. Leo Urbinelli uses his keen eye and state-of-the-art technology to provide a whole line of nonsurgical cosmetic treatments designed to make your skin smooth, firm, and blemish-free.

Treatments to support your skin through the summer — and all year round

AT PNW Plastic Surgery, we offer a variety of skin treatments to meet your unique needs.

Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin(R)

Botox, and its chemical cousins Dysport and Xeomin, are neurotoxins used both for certain medical conditions and as cosmetic agents. Botox was first approved by the FDA as a cosmetic treatment in April 2002 to reduce the appearance of moderate-to-severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults.

These injectables work by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, those that form from years of repeated expressions. The treatment lasts for 3-4 months, after which point you can repeat it to give your face a younger-looking and more relaxed appearance.

Soft tissue dermal fillers and fat grafting

Dermal fillers can help restore volume where aging and environmental toxins break down the support network of collagen and elastin that normally keep your skin smooth and supple. Dr. Urbinelli uses popular lines of hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvéderm® and Radiesse® to produce the best results. These injectable fillers, along with fat grafting, smooth out lines, wrinkles, and even deep creases, and improve your facial symmetry and contours.

Dr. Urbinelli also uses dermal fillers for a “liquid” rhinoplasty when patients don’t want the invasiveness and downtime of a surgical nose job. The fillers temporarily improve the contour and shape of your nose, making for subtle improvements.

Facials

Facials are a great way to hydrate and nourish your face, exchanging dry and dull-looking skin for a fresh and radiant glow. PNW Plastic Surgery also offers a line of medical-based skin care products to improve your daily regimen and keep your skin soft, supple, and youthful.

Radiofrequency (RF) with microneedling (Morpheus8)

Microneedling uses very fine needles to create dozens of micro-injuries in your skin, triggering your natural healing response and jump-starting collagen and elastin production to improve fullness and tone.

Morpheus8 is an aesthetic nonsurgical tool that combines RF energy with microneedling to penetrate deeper into your skin’s layers, remodeling the tissue and removing irregularities such as hyperpigmented areas and lax tissue. It can be used not just on the face, but on the rest of your body as well.

Chemical peels

Chemical peels use an acid solution to remove old, wrinkled, and sun-damaged layers of skin and restore a youthful, vibrant appearance. There are three main types, each with its own unique benefits.

The light chemical peel improves skin texture and acne scars and reduces the effects of sun damage. In addition to helping with acne, the medium chemical peel also smoothes fine surface wrinkles and corrects pigmentation problems. The deep chemical peel eliminates deep, coarse wrinkles, and can even remove pre-cancerous growths.

The downtime associated with peels increases the deeper it reaches. Dr. Urbinelli can recommend which he feels is appropriate for your skin type and aesthetic concerns.

Regenerative facial contouring

In this unique process, Dr. Urbinelli uses regenerative therapies — platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and fat grafting — to deliver stem cells and healing and growth factors to your face to rejuvenate your overall look.

Summer’s coming, and it’s important you support your skin with the extra time spent in the sun. To learn more about our various options, give PNW Plastic Surgery a call at 503-208-2348, or book an evaluation online with Dr. Urbinelli today.
