What Does a Mommy Makeover Involve?

What Does a Mommy Makeover Involve?

Getting pregnant and delivering your baby are thrilling times. However, once the baby is born, you’re left with a body that might not please you so much. Even if you watch what you eat and exercise regularly, you may discover you now have a flatter rear, wider hips, a soft, sagging belly, and drooping breasts.

In addition, over 60% of women develop diastasis recti, a separation of their “six-pack” abdominal muscles, and no amount of exercise can correct that. So what can you do when you’re no longer happy with your body?

You can turn to PNW Plastic Surgery in Portland, Oregon, where board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Leo Urbinelli and his staff understand your desire to get your pre-baby body back. Their “mommy makeover” series of surgical procedures can resolve all your problem areas, allowing you to focus on your family, not on how uncomfortable your body feels. Here’s what a mommy makeover involves.

Mommy makeover basics

A mommy makeover is a collection of surgical procedures that helps give you back your pre-baby flat and toned body. Each mommy makeover is tailored to the individual’s needs, so while the overall goal is to give you back your pre-baby body, the specific procedures you want or need can be different from other women's.

And because the procedures vary, there’s no set timeline for completing the restoration; we take it at your pace. We do try, however, to combine procedures, so it reduces the amount of time you need to spend recovering. After all, your time is better spent with your new family than recuperating from surgery.

PNW Plastic Surgery offers you a wide range of options to help you meet your aesthetic goals. During your mommy makeover consultation, we review your medical history, perform a physical exam, and discuss the specific areas you want to address. Then, we draw up a comprehensive treatment plan and timeline for getting the work done.

What is involved in a mommy makeover?

We use a number of procedures to achieve a mommy makeover.

Breast surgery

Breast surgery is a common procedure, and Dr. Urbinelli expertly performs many types, including breast augmentation, breast lifting, and breast reshaping. While augmentation (achieved either from implants or fat grafting) increases the size of your breasts, a breast lift is better for a mommy makeover, as it helps shape and firm sagging breast tissue that develops from pregnancy and nursing.

Body contouring

Rapid weight gain is necessary during pregnancy to help with your child’s development. However, it stretches the skin on your arms and legs, as well as your breasts and abdomen. While diet and exercise can help you lose the additional weight, you still may end up with loose, saggy skin.

Dr. Urbinelli uses minimally invasive body contouring procedures to remove the excess skin and fat and tighten the remaining skin tissue.

Brazilian butt lift

Pregnancy and childbirth are notorious for flattening your backside or causing it to droop. As part of the mommy makeover, Dr. Urbinelli can perform a Brazilian butt lift. He takes fat from a part of your body where you don’t need it (e.g., thighs, tummy) via liposuction, purifies the fat cells, and then injects (grafts) the cells into your buttocks. This gives you a boost in both size and curviness.

Liposuction

While pregnant, you ate for two, and you gained the weight needed for a healthy delivery. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean you’ll lose the weight as easily as you gained it once you’ve delivered. Even a strict regimen of diet and exercise may not be enough to remove stubborn fat pockets. Liposuction removes those fat cells permanently, improving your contours.

Tummy tuck

For nine months, you operated with a front-heavy load that took a toll on your stomach and abdominal muscles. Again, diet and exercise may not be enough for you to regain your pre-mommy body. A tummy tuck, medically known as abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and abdominal fat, trims down your midsection, repairs and tightens your abs, and restores a pleasing shape.

Are you unhappy with your post-baby body? A mommy makeover may be just the thing you need to get you back to the shape you want. To learn more, or to schedule a consultation with Dr. Urbinelli, call PNW Plastic Surgery at 971-319-5764, or book online with us today. We also do telehealth visits.
