    Leo Urbinelli, MD, MA, FAAP, is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon who founded and serves as Medical Director at PNW Plastic Surgery in Portland, Oregon. He specializes in plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery; as well as pediatric plastic, craniofacial and reconstructive surgery.

    Dr. Urbinelli completed a rigorous and comprehensive combined surgical residency in general surgery – plastic & reconstructive surgery at the NYU Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery (IRPS) at New York University (NYU) Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital in New York City. This highly competitive and sought-after training program helped forge Dr. Urbinelli into the caring and skilled surgeon he is today.

    He honed his skills at the world-renowned NYU IRPS under the mentorship of such surgical greats as Drs. Joseph McCarthy, Charles Thorne, Court Cutting, Eduardo Rodriguez, Sherrell Aston, Jamie Levine, Nolan Karp, David Chiu, Robert Allen, Barry Zide, Dan Baker, Babak Mehrara, Alan Matarraso, and David Staffenberg (just to name a few of his illustrious mentors).

    Capping off his training at the IRPS, Dr. Urbinelli was selected to serve as the Executive Chief Resident in his final year of residency. Upon graduation, he pursued a competitive additional year of training in Craniofacial and Pediatric plastic surgery under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Urata in Los Angeles, California, at the University of Southern California/Children's Hospital Los Angeles (USC/CHLA).

    Dr. Urbinelli has served most recently as an Assistant Professor of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), where he served as Associate Medical Director of the Cleft & Craniofacial Program at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital (DCH) at OHSU and functioned as the Chief of Pediatric Plastic Surgery at DCH/OHSU. In this role, he taught, trained, and mentored countless medical students, residents, fellows, and other faculty and staff. He developed new education programs, surgical protocols, and enhanced their multidisciplinary teams to be a national leader in cleft and craniofacial surgery. As a devoted educator, he shares his passion, knowledge, and extensive experience with those around him and enjoys teaching the next generation of health providers and patients/parents alike.

    He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and is Board Certified by the ABPS. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) as a specialty member in the section on Plastic Surgery.

    In addition to his certifications, leadership roles, and membership in several of the most prestigious Plastic & Reconstructive Surgical Societies, Dr. Urbinelli has also improved patient care and dedicated his time to the presentation and publishing of numerous scientific research in peer-reviewed top-rated plastic surgery journals and authored numerous textbook chapters.

    Dr. Urbinelli is a physician (MD), surgeon, educator, and scientist who is fortunate enough to share his love of Plastic Surgery with patients and families in his role at PNW Plastic Surgery. He is honored to have had the opportunity to train at some of the world's most premier plastic surgery programs and to share this knowledge with others. He utilizes his unique experience, knowledge, and expertise and applies it to each patient so they receive world-class cutting-edge care in a compassionate, personalized, and comfortable setting.

    On a personal note, Dr. Urbinelli enjoys spending his free time traveling, hiking, biking, and just hanging with his family in the beautiful Pacific NW. He is always trying to keep up with his wife, Dr. Lindsay Urbinelli, and three children: two beautiful daughters, Madeline and Juliette, and his somewhat well-behaved dog, Ralphie (an English Bulldog).
