Rhinoplasty in Portland, OR

What is a rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, also called a nose job is a procedure that changes the shape or structure of your nose to improve facial symmetry, balance or correct structures that impair breathing.

Dr. Urbinelli specializes in cosmetic (not happy with how your nose looks) and functional rhinoplasty (difficulty breathing through the nose). He’s also an expert in “difficult” surgeries and rhinoplasty revisions, including revisions on patients who’ve had multiple nasal surgeries.

As a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, he also has expertise in cleft rhinoplasty and traumatic nasal reconstruction.

Why People Have a Rhinoplasty

A rhinoplasty is performed for both medical and cosmetic reasons. Some of the medical reasons you might need a rhinoplasty include a deviated septum, nasal passages that are too narrow, or small nostrils. A rhinoplasty can help you breathe better.

Some of the aesthetic reasons you might want a rhinoplasty include making your nose smaller or larger, changing the angle of your nose, recontouring your nose, narrowing your nostrils, or making your nose more proportional to your face. A rhinoplasty can help you look better.

What are the rhinoplasty techniques?

Dr. Urbinelli performs and applies the most up-to-date surgical and non-surgical techniques when conducting an open (external incisions) or closed rhinoplasty (internal incisions).

Some of his surgical specialties include:

  • Customized bony, middle, and tip rhinoplasty
  • Rhinoplasty for people of diverse ethnicities/backgrounds
  • Structural repair using ear or rib cartilage
  • Nasal bone fracture or trauma repair
  • Septoplasty for a deviated septum

Dr. Urbinelli also performs a “liquid” rhinoplasty. During the non-surgical cosmetic procedure, the board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon uses injectable fillers to improve the contours and shape of your nose.

He may recommend a liquid rhinoplasty to temporarily fix small bumps, a droopy nasal tip, or asymmetry.

What To Expect During Rhinoplasty

A rhinoplasty procedure is usually performed in an operating room with general anesthesia or IV sedation. The procedure typically takes between 1 and 2 hours. During a rhinoplasty, your plastic surgeon will reshape the bone or cartilage or may add cartilage or bone to change the shape and appearance of your nose.

What To Expect During Recovery From Rhinoplasty

After your rhinoplasty procedure, it’s common to experience swelling and bruising near your eyes and over your nose. Your plastic surgeon may prescribe pain and anti-inflammatory medications for the first few days after your surgery. You will also need to use a nasal saline spray to keep your nasal passages moist. Your plastic surgeon may also have you wear an internal or external nasal splint to cushion and support the surgical area and aid healing.

How long is recovery following surgical rhinoplasty?

Recovery following surgical rhinoplasty varies. But you should plan on taking a week off from work and most of your usual activities immediately after the procedure.

You can expect most of the bruising and swelling from surgical rhinoplasty to subside within a few weeks after the procedure. However, it may take 6 months or up to a year for all the swelling to go away so you can see and appreciate the final results.

Whether for looks or function, Dr. Urbinelli can help you achieve the results you want. Call PNW Plastic Surgery, or schedule your rhinoplasty consultation online today.

What You Should Ask Our Plastic Surgeon

Before considering rhinoplasty, there are some important questions you should ask your plastic surgeon, such as:

  • How many rhinoplasty procedures have you performed?
  • What are the benefits of rhinoplasty?
  • What are the risks of rhinoplasty?
  • How much downtime is involved with rhinoplasty?
  • What results can I expect from my rhinoplasty procedure?

Am I a candidate for a rhinoplasty?

Schedule a consultation with Dr. Urbinelli at PNW Plastic Surgery to see if rhinoplasty is the right choice for you. Dr. Urbinelli takes a patient-centered approach to care. No matter your reason for the consultation, he conducts an in-depth evaluation to fully understand your concerns and goals.

He may consider you a good candidate for rhinoplasty if you’re unhappy with the shape, size, or look of your nose. Or if you have a nasal structural problem that impairs your breathing.

In addition to your cosmetic or functional issues, to be a candidate for rhinoplasty, you must be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the procedure.
